Eighty percent of people experience some form of lower back pain, including sacroiliac pain, during their lifetime. The sacroiliac joint (SI joint) is one of the joints of the pelvis, formed by two bones, the sacrum and the ilium, and it’s major function is stability for the entire spinal column. When we sit too much, the stability is lost contributing to stress at the joint. Iyengar yoga offers safe and effective approaches to lower back care.
In this workshop, we will learn simple and practical methods to explore the SI joint, heal our backs, and cope with stress. We will look at how daily activities and incorrect yoga practice may be hurting the low back and how to modify to prevent pain and injury.
Early warning signs of back problems will be explored and what to do to ward off further back pain. Through understanding yoga asanas, we will minimize and ultimately correct back problems. We will learn how the proper alignment of bones, muscles, and movements will help the healing process occur.
This workshop is open to all yoga students with a minimum 1 year Iyengar yoga experience.
