Pranayama: Why & How it Improves Both Your Yoga & Life
“The mind is the king of the senses but the breath is the king of the mind.” -B.K.S. Iyengar
Yoga practitioners seek better health, more balance in their lives, and experiences that take them to new vistas of knowledge and perspective. When many people think of yoga, they think of asana even though other aspects of yoga, like pranayama, are equally essential to progress on the yoga path. Experienced yoga practitioners struggle to establish and deepen their pranayama practice and in this workshop we will explore why this is and explore strategies how to integrate pranayama firmly into your life bringing countless benefits.
Iyengar yoga approaches pranayama practice in a unique way. We encourage people to have a minimum of 1 year of consistent Iyengar yoga practice before beginning pranayama. The reasons are multi-fold: to build physical and mental stamina, body awareness, and strength in the nervous system to thoughtfully and safely practice pranayama. Nurturing these essential qualities, builds the foundation for a successful and enriching yoga practice.
This workshop is open to all yoga students with a minimum 1 year Iyengar yoga experience.
