The Iyengar Yoga Zentrum Berlin is pleased to welcome back Georgie Grütter to Berlin. Georgie Grütter is one of the most Senior German Iyengar Yoga teachers and directs a yoga studio in Mallorca. She also teaches yoga philosophy and asana in teacher trainings in Berlin and Cologne as well as internationally and is the author of the book, YogaPhilosophie (only available in German). In this weekend workshop, Georgie will teach yoga asanas and discuss the yamas und niyamas from the Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali. In the Yoga Sutras, a seminal collection of texts written between the second century BCE and fifth century CE, philosophers outline an eight-limbed, step-by-step path for purifying the body and mind. The ultimate goal is to help practitioners cultivate a steady mind, leading to calm bliss. The first two stops on the path, even before the physical postures, are ethical principles that are supposed to guide how we relate to other people and how we take care of ourselves. They’re called the yamas (social restraints) and the niyamas (self-disciplines). Georgie will help us understand how yoga philosophy connects to our asana practice and our lives.
This workshop will be taught in German.
