Workshop Abdominal Muscles and a Healthy Lower Back

For most people, yoga stands for flexibility, strength, balance, inner peace and relaxation. Strengthening the abdominal muscles is not what we first associate with yoga. Nevertheless, in Iyengar Yoga the muscles of the front abdominal wall are used indirectly or directly in very many asanas without being named. This makes it all the more important to understand how they are used and how they work. The alignment of the pelvis and lower back are very closely related to this muscle group. On the one hand, under-trained muscles in the anterior abdominal wall and misalignment of the pelvis can lead to lower back pain. On the other hand, overtrained abdominal muscles (“six-pack”) can be harmful to the lower abdominal organs, especially those of women. To approach this topic we will practice different asana groups.

The workshop is aimed at yoga practitioners who have at least 1 year of regular practice in Iyengar Yoga.

The workshop is offered as a face-to-face and online class.
