IYZB is pleased to welcome Joan White back to Berlin. Joan is one of the most accomplished and experienced practitioners Iyengar yoga and certified by B.K.S. Iyengar at the Advanced level. She directs the Iyengar Yoga School of Philadelphia and began her yoga training in 1968. In 1972, Joan was in a horseback riding accident and broke her back and sustained other serious spinal injuries. She suffered from temporary paralysis and slowly began to recover with some yoga poses. Joan met Guruji in 1973 in one of his first classes in the USA and then she knew that she had met her teacher.
Joan teaches internationally and was the Chair of the Certification Committee for the Iyengar Yoga Association of the US and trains and certifies teachers (Joan trained Elizabeth Smullens Brass). Joan is also a contributor to the book Iyengar: The Yoga Master, has appeared in Ascent magazine and has been interviewed by the BBC and Yoga Journal, among others.
In 2005, Joan had a second horseback riding accident, which left her with a broken back, eight broken ribs, a destroyed shoulder and a punctured lung. Despite all of this she has continued to practice and learn from her experience. She genuinely enjoys being with her students and generously shares what she knows. This workshop will be a unique opportunity to study with Joan in Europe.
